Every Labor Day the Jesse Pica runs a Warhammer 40K Apocalypse battle here at the Wizard’s Wall. Each player brings all he has; no point limit. This year was the best battle yet. We started right at noon and played until 9:30 PM and played a full four rounds.
The Battlefield was set up with the Tyranids attacking from the South and Orks with their Chaos Space Marine allies attacking from North. In the Center the Imperial Guard, Space Marines and Eldar defend.from well fortified positions.
In the pictures below you will see 7 objective markers, in the form of poker chips. 2 markers in the North, 1 in the South and 4 in the Center. At the end of each round the side closest to the markers gains a victory point. Victory points can also be gained by destroying super heavies and Gargantuants.
To add some extra Orkiness to the battle a giant Boomsday Rocket was set up. Every round the Ork player rolled two dice. On doubles it blasts off.
This year we had 6 players:
Justin Mehlich played Imperial Guard and Eldar.
Dilon Bell brought both his Chaos Space Marines and Orks.
Adam Wilborne and Gunter Schmal brought Space Marines.
Travis Ebling and Adam Bois played Tyranids.
Setting up the battlefield.
Round one. The Orks, and Chaos Marines are set up on the North side of the battlefield.
The Imperial Guard, Space Marines and Eldar are set up in the middle of the field in a defensive position.
The Tyranid horde invades from the South
Round one victory points: The defenders have earned 5 victory points giving them the lead..
Round Two: In the first and second rounds of shooting the defenders cut large swaths of casualties into the invaders. Will it be enough?
Round two victory points: Orks and Chaos earned enough points to tie the defenders.
Third Round: The defenders lines are over run. The defenders have been racking up victory points but the attackers are now contesting the points. Victory now depends on the Assault Phase.
The BOOMSDAY ROCKET was knocked off it’s mount during assault phase. It paid off to deep strike the Dreadnoughts and Terminator squad back there.
Trygons and a Baneblade fight for the middle. Unfortunately for the Tyranids the Baneblade survived and got another round of shooting.
On the North side the Orks and CSM are not having the same success as the Tyranids. Gunter wisely had his Terminators and Dreadnoughts Deep Strike behind the Ork lines.
Fourth and final round. The Tyranids tear through the defenders and destroy the Baneblade.
